The National Weather Service in Little Rock has issued the following Wind Advisory and Hazardous Weather Outlook.
A wind advisory has been issued to last from 6 a.m. Saturday until midnight Sunday.
* AREAS AFFECTED…Much of northern and central Arkansas, generally north of a Mena to Sheridan to De Witt line.
* WINDS…Northwest winds will increase to 20 to 30 mph with wind gusts approaching 40 mph at times.
* IMPACTS…Loose outdoor items will be vulnerable to the strong winds. Travel may become difficult and hazardous on area roadways especially for high profile vehicles.
FRIDAY:
A strong storm system will move through the region late Friday night through Saturday. Showers will develop and overspread the state late this afternoon into tonight, with a few thunderstorms possible. While an isolated storm could briefly become strong, the overall threat for severe thunderstorms remains low.
SATURDAY – THURSDAY:
Arctic air will filter into the state immediately behind the system. This may result in some light accumulating snow primarily across northern portions of the state Saturday and Saturday night. At this time, no significant impacts are expected.
Winds around the system will be gusty, particularly on Saturday and Saturday night. This will create rough conditions on area bodies of water, and could cause difficulty for some high profile vehicles.
The combination of cold air and gusty winds will allow for wind chills in the teens and 20s late Saturday night into early Sunday. However, single digit wind chills will be possible in the far northwest portion of Arkansas.
For Sunday night through Thursday, the threat of additional hazardous weather is low.
