The National Weather Service says we already have a wind chill advisory currently in effect until noon Tuesday. Add to that a winter storm warning in effect from Noon Sunday to 6pm Monday.
In related news, schools will already be out, due to the MLK Jr Holiday on Monday, January 15th. If there’s a need, we’ll update about schools on Monday afternoon or evening. Here’s the latest update to the forecast:
For the winter storm warning, heavy snow is expected. For the wind chill advisory, it’s going to be very cold wind chills as low as -15.
Widespread accumulating snow is expected to overspread the state Sunday through Monday. Over a large part of Arkansas, amounts of 2 to 5 inches are expected. There could be a narrow corridor of heavier snow which could produce more than 5 inches.
As it stands now, this band is positioned over south central into portions of eastern Arkansas, but could easily shift south with time. There is a chance some of the precipitation over southern Arkansas could mix with sleet, if this scenario plays out, actual amounts will be lower. Changes to this map are likely, so watch MySaline for updates.
This is for most of Arkansas. See the list of counties and cities below.

With arctic air firmly in place before and after the winter weather arrives, impacts from snowfall will last for several days, resulting in a prolonged period of hazardous travel conditions. Bitter cold wind chills could result in frostbite as well as significant impacts to infrastructure.
If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves. Be sure to check road conditions before traveling in these areas. Visit the Arkansas Department of Transportation’s website idrivearkansas.com for the latest road and traffic conditions.
