Early Saturday morning, there is ice and also ice patches on area roadways, according to IDriveArkansas. The ice is especially from west central into central and northeast Arkansas.
With the winter storm winding down across the area, the focus will shift to the refreezing of roadways through Saturday morning, as the mercury drops well below the freezing mark. This will lead to very hazardous driving conditions as widespread black ice forms. There could also be some freezing fog that forms overnight, leading to reduced visibilities.
The most snow accumulated from west central into central Arkansas – 10″ to 12″ and more. The highest snow accumulations were at Briggsville (Yell Co), and Mena (Polk Co), each with 14 inches. In Mena, it was the most snow in one day on record. Significant ice (at least quarter inch accruals) were confined to southern sections of the state.
As long as there is snow on the ground, there will be melting during the day and some refreezing (ice) on roads (especially bridges/overpasses) at night. Otherwise there is no hazard weather expected through Friday.
The high temperature Saturday will range from the lower 30s in northeast Arkansas to the mid 40s in the far south (toward the Louisiana border).
Patchy to areas of freezing fog are possible this morning across western, central, and southern Arkansas. In addition to freezing fog, copious amounts of snow and ice remain on area roadways which will create hazardous driving conditions through the morning and again tonight once temperatures fall below freezing.
Motorists will need to remain alert overnight and Saturday morning for icy spots on area roadways, especially bridges and overpasses, as well as most secondary roads. Slow down and allow plenty of extra time to reach your destination. Temperatures are expected to climb above the freezing mark by Saturday afternoon.
