There’s a chance of light snow this week, according to the National Weather Service in Little Rock.
A cold front will pass through Arkansas during the day Wednesday with little fanfare. No precipitation is expected along the actual front, but it will bring colder air back to the state. This front will stall to the south of the state, and weak low pressure will travel quickly along it late Wednesday night and early Thursday bringing the possibility of a little winter weather. There will be a period late Wednesday night through early Thursday afternoon when light wintry precipitation will be possible mainly across the northern and northeastern parts of the state.
Significant amounts are not expected with this set up but parts of northern and northeastern Arkansas could pick up a quick inch of snow with some locally higher amounts. Some parts of east central Arkansas could see some light freezing rain with minimal impacts.
Moisture will be limited and the aforementioned low will be a quick mover with the majority of the precipitation out of the state by early Thursday afternoon. Areas of northern Arkansas could see an inch of snow with the far northeast part of the state possibly seeing in excess of an inch. Further to the south and west, a dusting up to a few tenths can not be ruled out and there could even be a brief wintry mix in places early Thursday morning.
This is expected to be a low impact event but some travel issues will be possible especially on elevated roadways and less traveled areas.
