Saline County Judge Jeff Arey announced today that he is running for re-election in 2022. Arey has been serving as the Saline County Judge since 2015 and before that served as Mayor of Haskell for sixteen years.
“I love Saline County, and I consider it an honor to serve our citizens every day,” Arey stated. “I believe the key to our success has been putting together a terrific staff of county employees and having excellent working relationships with our local officials from mayors to school boards or other local agencies. The best example of that is the construction of the Saline County Career Technical Campus off of I-30. Developing and planning this project has involved hundreds of people all over the county, and involves a ton of interagency cooperation. Since it is a county-owned facility, my office is responsible for the construction. I’m proud to say that we are on time and on budget for this $43 million dollar project. The Campus will give young people from all over the area the training they need to have good paying jobs, and also gives our county a huge advantage in recruiting industry because they’ll know we have the ability to train their workers.”
Arey highlighted his common sense budgeting as another reason for the voters to support him again pointing out his creation of the Financial Management Department which has streamlined the accounting process improving accountability and transparency for all of the county budgets. “The Department has been up and running a little over a year, and we’ve already saved thousands of dollars and found many more efficient ways to serve the people of Saline County.”
Arey said he was also proud to have administered nearly 13 million dollars in grants to provide vital equipment to local fire departments and the law enforcement community as well as necessary infrastructure improvements from bridges and road intersections to sanitary sewer systems. “We have made significant improvement in Emergency Management in Saline County by completely revamping our Weather Warning System and with the help of the city officials we have consolidated the Benton and Saline County 911 Centers.”
Looking ahead, Arey said, “I’m excited about the future of Saline County. We expect the Census will show that we’ve grown to well over 120,000 people. That kind of growth takes experience, good relationships, and a steady hand to manage. I’m asking the voters for their support in allowing me to continue working to make Saline County the best possible place for them to work, have fun, and raise their families.”
