Benton Parks and Recreation is among those awarded money by the State recently. The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (ARDOT) announced the award recipients for its Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP).
The TAP program funds eligible projects to include construction of on-road/off-road trail facilities that include the following:
- sidewalks,
- bicycle infrastructure,
- pedestrian and bicycle signals,
- lighting, and
- other safety-related infrastructure.
“We have been awarded $245,000 for the Ralph Bunche Connector Trail.” says Stephanie Jones, Director of Parks and Recreation. “With the Mountain Bike Park coming in 2023, this is a huge win for the Department as we are focusing on connectivity in our parks system.”
In a previous meeting, Benton City Council made plans for the City to enter into a contract for construction of the Ralph Bunche connector. The City is responsible for 20% of the cost. ARDOT is responsible for 80%.
