District 6 of the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) finalized plans Thursday morning to resurface some major state highways in Benton. Some city streets will be resurfaced as well, with ARDOT’s help. Cranford Construction has been awarded the project. See the three parts of the project below, including maps.
The highways to be resurfaced are Highway 35 and Highway 88. The sections of Highway 35 in this project are Carpenter Street, East Street and Edison Street. On Highway 88, the sections to be improved are Military Road, from Walgreens to Arvest Bank, and Alcoa Blvd from the bank to just past Empire Cheer at Benton Parkway.
In addition, the City of Benton, working with ARDOT, will resurface the remaining portion of Military Road from the Alcoa intersection to the intersection of Military and Congo Road. That work is slated to begin in the middle of June. Weather permitting, it should be complete by the middle of August. According to a press release from the City of Benton, these major roadways have not received a complete repair and rework in over 20 years.
Additionally, ARDOT has allocated funding from District 6 in a State Aid program that will allow the City of Benton to resurface Border Street, Border Circle, Mont Clair, and Princeton Streets.
“What an exciting thing to happen for the Citizens and businesses of Benton, started Benton Mayor Tom Farmer “This long overdue project will bolster the already booming downtown and surrounding areas and give our city an entirely different look.”
