The City of Benton released a statement to keep citizens informed about upcoming construction on Arkansas Highway 5 North.
The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) held a meeting with Kiewit Construction recently concerning the Highway 5 project Job #061508. This project will start at Interstate 30 at Tops Shoes at its west end, and run to Alcoa by Scooter’s Coffee & Tommy’s Car Wash. According to ARDOT documents, the cost of the project is $10-15 million.

Weather permitting, the job is slated to begin March 4, 2024. ARDOT and the contractor will be notifying the property owners and businesses before work begins. The goal end date is set for December 18, 2024, but they hope to be finished by Thanksgiving.
Motorists will start seeing signage at the end of February. Clearing and grubbing will begin March 4, 2024 near Tops, while working back to Tommy’s. Clearing means removing grass, trees and bushes in the right of way, and grubbing is the removal of roots below the surface.
