What do you do when you see the delivery driver is driving erratically and might be about to crash? It’s not as simple as you might think. On Wednesday, August 17th, James McEntire was coming into the Silver Springs neighborhood and noticed an Amazon driver coming right at him.
“I could see his hands in the air and he was driving around 5-10 mph so I knew something was wrong.” James said he stopped his own car and got out to approach him. “He was seated in the Amazon van with his seatbelt on but had laid his upper torso in between the two front seats that had an opening to the back of the van.”
James said he thought the driver might have been having a seizure because of the way his hands were moving. “I stopped and chased the van down, opened the door and shoved it in park. I went around the passenger side and checked on him. He was unresponsive. After about 3-4 minutes he came out of it and I started talking to him.”
The Haskell Fire Department and Police Department were at the scene within a few minutes. “I had a couple of ladies behind him in a truck call 911. Once the paramedics and police arrived, I gave them my info and proceeded on home.”
“No injuries or damage to anyone’s property. God had His Hand watching over the situation for everyone. Thanks to the two ladies that stayed with me while on the phone with 911 to bring the Haskell paramedics and Haskell police that provided the necessary care and assistance for him.”
Reports are that the driver is okay and was released from the hospital after treatment.
