Book: Those Who Wish Me Dead
Author: Michael Koryta
My Rating: 3.5 Action Packed Stars
Bookworms! I have a great action packed read for y’all today! I recently found out that the new movie “Those Who Wish Me Dead” was a book. And I’m one of those people who likes to read the book first, so here we are.
I went into this story not knowing much at all other than it was a movie starring Angelina Jolie. So, when the opening scene was a teenage boy witnessing a crime, I knew I was in for a wild ride. I thoroughly enjoyed this story from the first page to the last, simply for the fact that it was entertaining. After Jace witnesses a horrible crime, he gets a new identity and goes off the grid in a survival program in Montana. But the Blackwell Brothers are professional killers, and they’re determined to get to Jace. Ethan and Allison Serbin run the survival program Jace is sent to, and Hannah Faber has retreated to a fire lookout tower to escape her past. They are the only hope Jace has of escaping the Blackwell’s.
There are multiple points of view. So where some action novels become monotonous, this one was constantly changing voices. Sometimes multiple POVs annoys me, but in this story it really worked. Another fun aspect of this novel is that one of the POVs is a teenage boy. A young main character in an action story is so rare and I really loved it. Typically, the characters dealing with these intense situations are adults, seeing all the drama through the eyes of a child was actually very interesting, and I anticipated all the chapters from his point of view.
Despite the fact that it started out with a very shocking scene, for some reason I felt like it was a slow starter. But I’m really glad I stuck with it. To be honest, I decided to read the book after reading the “Watch This With Chris” review for the movie. Now that I’ve finished the book, I can go watch it!
