More charges are on the way for a former custodian at Bryant High School. On February 16, 2024, the Bryant Police Department(BPD) arrested Rene Cross, age 33, and charged him with Video Voyeurism, a felony. Cross was taken to the Detention Center at the Saline County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), but was released in under 20 minutes, according to the Inmate Roster records.

In MySaline’s February 16th article, we reported that Cross, then employed by Bryant Public Schools, was arrested that morning after allegations that he was taking video of a student in the restroom. Now BPD says they have enough evidence for an additional 6 counts of Video Voyeurism.
Investigators with the Criminal Investigation Division were able to obtain a warrant to arrest Mr. Cross again. He is not in custody as of the publish date of this article.

A warrant has been issued for 33 year old Rene Cross. The former custodian for the Bryant School District was arrested on February 16 this year for video voyeurism after using his cell phone to video a male student getting dressed inside a bathroom at the school’s field house sports facility. After continuing the investigation into the matter, it was discovered that there are more victims. Investigators with the Bryant Police Criminal Investigation Division were able to obtain a warrant on Cross for 6 more counts of video voyeurism. Rene Cross has not been taken into custody as of late this afternoon. We will keep you updated on any new developments.

At 11:20 a.m. that day, the Bryant Police Department issued this statement via social media: “The Bryant Police School Resource Officers received a report this morning regarding a male employee with the Bryant School District using his cell phone to video a male student getting dressed inside a bathroom at the school’s field house sports building. The employee was identified as 33 year old Rene Cross, a custodian with the school district, was taken into custody and is being charged at this time with Video Voyeurism. The investigation into this case is still ongoing. We will keep you updated with any new developments.
BPS Statement to Parents 10:48 a.m. Feb 16, 2024
Earlier this morning a student reported suspicious conduct by a classified school employee in a restroom on the Bryant High School campus. District personnel immediately notified all appropriate authorities, including law enforcement, as soon as they learned of the allegation.
Bryant School Resource Officers responded and the individual was arrested by the Bryant Police Department and initially charged with Video Voyeurism. The Bryant Police Department is investigating this matter and we will fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
The employee will not be allowed to return to any Bryant School District property or campus for the duration of the investigation or any subsequent proceedings. In addition to fully cooperating with the law enforcement investigation, the District will address this as an employment matter.
Student safety remains our highest priority. Parents and students should always notify administration immediately with any information concerning suspicious activity or any activity that might impact the health and safety of students.
