At 6pm today [Tuesday] the following letter was included with the donation of a book to each branch of the Saline County Library system.
Dear Librarians,
Recent news has inspired me to donate this book to your shelves. Apparently, a group of people, who don’t work for the library, nor are they library scholars with degrees, seem to think that ALL the material in the children’s section needs their seal of approval.
The group maintains a website that supports a political party. They even list the party platform, which contains an item promoting “personal responsibility.” How ironic, arrogant, and frankly non-Christ-like for them to think they know what’s best for ALL.
Now, living in this red state I fear they may end up getting their way, which will then leave some bare spots on your children’s bookshelves. So, I decided to purchase two copies of this children’s book and donate one to each branch in your system. The book is titled, “The Satanic Temple Presents: Goodnight Baphomet.”

This bedtime short story book teaches children the 7 tenants of The Satanic Temple, and in words that even the youngest reader can understand. You’ll find nothing in this book to deserve any challenge from this group throwing a fit, nor any other groups.
It’s disheartening that with all the challenges we face as humans we have some spending so much time, effort, and energy on trivial things like this. Truly the group has some money, an audience, and believes they mean well. If only we could help them redirect all that effort to a more positive, productive goal. But change usually comes from within.
Thank you for accepting this donation. And thank you for opening the gift at the requested time. For on June 6 at 6pm (666) these two books now belong to our Saline County Library System. May they be cataloged and marked soon in order to be on the shelves in time for many to read over the summer.
Kind regards,
LeeWood Thomas
