Breezy southerly winds are expected on Thursday, ahead of an approaching cold front. Thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon along the front and some of these storms could become strong to severe, persisting into Friday morning. The primary concerns will be damaging winds and large hail. The tornado threat while low, is not zero.
The storms may also produce locally heavy rainfall Thursday evening into midday Friday. Several inches of rain may fall in a short amount of time which could lead to flash flooding.
Much colder air is expected for this weekend into next week. Temperatures in the mid-40s in central Arkansas and even mid-30s are likely across northern Arkansas Sunday morning. Some higher-elevated locations in the state could experience a freeze.
