Shirley Ann Laster, of Benton, passed on to “The Good Life” on August 6th, 2022. After a very long struggle with cancer, the headstrong and determined retired RN conceded to her affliction.
At 86 years old, she outlived her husband, Henry Lewis Laster Sr., and her son, Henry Lewis Laster Jr. Also deceased prior to her passing were her sisters Virginia Lewis and Verna Hendrix and her brother Dewell Arey Jr.
She loved her grandkids and great-grandkids and was always ready to say “Yes” to anything they asked. Her living children who did not always hear her say “Yes” are Janice Bryant and Melody Ellis. Her grandkids included Cindy Bryant and Jennifer Kratz, Jeremy and Steven Laster, and Morgan and Ryan Ellis. The last of the ”pride and joy” includes great-grandkids Alex, Angel, and Dallas Laster, Tyler Laster, Katelynn Bussell, Cameron Kratz and Sophie Asmussen. Her catalog of friends, lifelong and new, is too long to list when paying for an obit by the word. All of her friends know who they are and that Shirley was a frugal spender. Shirley was a member of several social clubs including Theo’s, Breakfast Club Class of ‘54 Bryant High, and Salem Red Hats AKA the Sassy Ladies. Although her thumb was only pale green, she loved tending to her vegetable garden and watching them grow. She loved any body of water that allowed her to swim as well as her numerous beach trips to Port Aransas. Being a believer in Jesus Christ, she is no doubt on a beach looking forward to the next potluck and domino game. Donations in memory of Shirley can be made to Home for Healing charity at www.homeforhealing.org or Feed the Children charity at www.feedthechildren.org.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date with details to come.
