The Senior Day game approaches with the Hornets playing a home game versus the North Little Rock Charging Wildcats. Senior Day at Bryant comes each season but seems to always catch us off guard. We each know what the seniors mean to us and to the Bryant football program. We just don’t want to say goodbye to wonderful people and football players. We want them to always be on our team.
In our memories they will be. For example, the way Will Diggins lifts each player skyward after they score a touchdown. For me, it will forever be number 54 lifting teammates to celebrate – other players may do the same in years to come, but I will always see 54 doing that.
We all have our favorite moments of this senior class, but have you ever wondered what their favorite moments are? I have too, so I asked a few of them and this is what they had to say:
“What is your favorite moment as a Hornet?”
(73) Jason Shifflet: Getting a sack in the 2020 State Championship game against NLR. As an O-lineman, you don’t get to do that every day.
(94) Grant Reidmuller: 2021 Salt Bowl. Getting to run out of the tunnel and contribute to a win against our rival will always be special. I’ll remember that.
(79) Angel Sanchez: Seeing Coach James smile after we won state in 2019.
(Student Training Staff) Raegan Duke: Seeing everyone so happy and excited after we won the state championship in 2019.
(Equipment Manager) Colson Billingsley: 2019 state championship game. Getting to dump Gatorade on Coach James after the win, that’s my special moment.
(42) Pierce Kinley: Running out of the tunnel with my teammates at the Salt Bowl.
(62) Ty Jackson: The eating competition at Larry’s Pizza when I ate 15 pieces of pizza and lost to Matt Elder because he ate 19 pieces of pizza.
It is special to me because it is special to them – I love these players and I love this team. I know you do too.
I asked Offensive Line Coach, Shane Clancey, what this group of seniors has meant to him. I instantly saw the emotion that will soon overwhelm him. It’s easy to see that he loves his players.
He thought for several minutes and then said, “They made my job easy. They have carried on what it means to be an offensive lineman at Bryant. They have educated the young guys and bought in to the whole program, from the weight room to the practice field, the film room and even the yoga. I will miss their dedication to each other and to the program.”
