An elementary school in the Bryant School district, on Alcoa Road, was on lockdown for a short time in Tuesday morning. One person stated there were gunshots heard, possibly coming from a nearby apartment complex. The school district assured parents that everyone was safe, issuing the following statement regarding the incident:
Hurricane Creek Elementary went into a lockdown earlier today due to concerning sounds in a nearby neighborhood. Police were notified and gave clearance.
Students and staff were not in any danger, but were asked to stay inside as a precautionary measure. As soon as police cleared the area, the school resumed its normal schedule.
