There’s a new holiday in central Arkansas – 501 Day, to happen for the first time on May 1st, 2021. It’s a way to celebrate the cities that fall within that area code.
The Downtown Little Rock Partnership, several cities, chambers of commerce, and community organizations, created 501 Day.
“We’ve seen this done in other regions whose area codes correspond to dates on a calendar,” Gabe Holmstrom, Executive Director of Downtown Little Rock Partnership, said. “During a brainstorming session one day, we realized we had this great opportunity to celebrate the 501 on 5/01. We got on the phone with some other 501 cities and it snowballed from there.”
On 501 Day, businesses and organizations are encouraged to show their 501 pride with special 501-themed offers, activities, merchandize, public art displays, and whatever else they dream up. Use the hashtag and tag #Celebrate501, @Celebrate501 on social media, to share what you love about central Arkansas year-round, but especially on this new event on May 1st.
