The National Weather Service in Little Rock says their confidence remains high on the potential for an intrusion of cold Arctic air into the southern U.S. by the middle of next week (Feb. 9-12). The potential for wintry precipitation remains in the forecast as well, however confidence is not as strong on the coverage and magnitude of impactful winter weather.
Bitter cold temperatures will accompany the cold front with potentially dangerous wind chill values becoming prevalent over the northern portion of the state as early as Wednesday morning. In the days to follow, morning wind chill values in the low teens to twenties will become more widespread over the southern two thirds of the state, while the northern third will likely see dangerous wind chill values ranging from sub-zero to single digits.
The cold front is currently forecast to reach the northern portion of Arkansas in the predawn hours of Tuesday morning, with hazardous temperatures/wind chill values setting in by Wednesday morning, and becoming colder in the mornings to follow, with forecast wind chills of sub-zero to single digits over northern Arkansas by Friday.
