State Senator Kim Hammer, Republican from Benton, has announced his campaign for Secretary of State in the 2026 election. Hammer has served in the State Senate since 2019 and previously served in the State House of Representatives from 2010 through 2018.
“It has been one of my great joys in life to serve the people of Arkansas as a legislator,” said Hammer. “I would like to continue to serve Arkansans as their Secretary of State. If elected, I will use my experience and work with both the legislative and administrative branches of government for the overall good and benefit of Arkansans.”
During his time in the legislature, Hammer has been a key leader on election reform measures, helping ensure Arkansas has become one of the top states for election integrity and security. He said that as Secretary of State he will continue to work with County Clerks and Election Commissioners across the state to keep Arkansas elections running smoothly so voters can continue to have confidence in our process.
Hammer pointed out he has been endorsed by the Arkansas State Chamber and National Federation of Independent Businesses in numerous campaigns throughout his political career, a fact he says is important for someone who will be in charge of the business and commercial licensing within the state, adding “my pro-business record shows that I will work to eliminate bureaucracy and red tape.”
“Arkansas has one of the most prestigious capitol grounds in the nation. My goal would be to preserve the integrity, safety, and beauty of the capitol grounds,” continued Hammer.
Recently Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders appointed Cole Jester as Secretary of State to finish the remaining term of John Thurston who vacated the office when he was elected the State Treasure. Jester is unable to seek re-election to the office since he was appointed to it. Hammer said he was excited to see the Governor appoint a young conservative to the position and believes Jester will do a fine job.
