The $8.5 million expansion will add 82 additional beds, bringing the total capacity from 234 beds to 316. The project also includes expanded medical areas and upgrades to the kitchen, ensuring the jail can meet the growing needs of our county.
Saline County has retained the services of architects BCOH along with general contractor CDI. Construction is expected to be completed by October of 2025 with over 11,258 square feet of new space being added.
“Our current Quorum Court has been instrumental in the process of adding much needed jail space without increasing the burden of Saline County taxpayers,” said Saline County Judge Matt Brumley. By doing this, they have enhanced the security and safety of all Saline County. We understand that future expansions will be required to meet our future needs, however expansion is both necessary and aligns with our current financial resources.”
The last expansion of the Saline County Jail took place more than 14 years ago, while the county’s population has continued to grow significantly during that time. In 2022, the Quorum Court recognized the urgent need for expansion and voted to approve the project, ensuring the facility can better handle current and future demands.
“No jail space sends a dangerous message. It removes immediate consequences, emboldening individuals to commit further crimes, escalating from minor offenses to more serious ones as they learn they can avoid repercussions”, said Saline County Sheriff Rodney Wright.
