1986 Bauxite Miner Football Team
All the pieces fell in place for the 1986 Miners. On a team of 23, there were 12 seniors and over half of those seniors had played together since the fourth grade. This group was close, comfortable, and ready to prove themselves.

The team was led by coaches Alvin Jones, Don Massarelli, and David Gibbs. They inspired confidence through hard work and discipline. Defeat was not even considered as the season began.
The wishbone offense dominated opposing defenses by controlling the ball and eating up yards. Overall, the Miners outscored opponents 194-55. The defense held opposing offenses to three shutouts and never let an opponent score more than once per game.
Just like all great Miner teams, they made sure that any team facing them would feel the bumps and bruises on Saturday. A signature win for the season was a 20-7 win over Fountain Lake that would pave the way to a showdown with Magnet Cove for the conference championship.
Heading into the contest against the Cobras, many expected a close game and most predicted a Bauxite loss. The Miners controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball leading to a decisive win.
The Aluminum Bowl this year would determine the conference champion on a cold rainy night. The Miners were victorious in the defensive struggle by a score of 12-6, thanks to two field goals over 40 yards. A great finish to a great season.
