Rev. George P. Thompson, Jr.
Rev. George P. Thompson, Jr. was born on October 22, 1931. He demonstrated his commitment to service early in life by leaving high school to join the United States Air Force. During his distinguished military career, George earned several commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Occupation Medal Germany. These awards reflect his dedication, discipline, and honorable service to his country.

After returning from his military service, George’s connection to Bauxite only grew stronger. Together with his wife, Mary Thompson, he spent countless hours supporting the school and its students. George and Mary were regular attendees at sporting events, band performances, and graduations, celebrating the achievements of their four children and fostering a deep connection with the Bauxite community.
George’s dedication extended beyond his family’s participation in school events. When their youngest daughter, Stacey, was in elementary school at Pine Haven, George and Mary became deeply involved in the Booster Club. During this time, the Booster Club played a crucial role in managing concessions for the junior high and senior high football and basketball games, as well as for the elementary-level games. George’s involvement was instrumental in ensuring these activities ran smoothly and successfully, showcasing his commitment to the success of Bauxite’s student athletes.
Additionally, George took on the responsibility of filming all the basketball games, capturing moments that would become cherished memories for the players and their families. His dedication to preserving these memories and supporting the teams reflects his unwavering support for Bauxite High School and its students.
George’s dedication to Bauxite was further exemplified by his service on the Bauxite School Board from 1984 to 1989. During his tenure, George contributed to important decisions that shaped the future of the school and its students. His leadership and commitment to the betterment of the Bauxite School District underscored his dedication to the community.
Rev. George P. Thompson, Jr.’s legacy in Bauxite is one of service, leadership, and unwavering dedication. Although he did not graduate from Bauxite High School, his lifelong contributions to the school and its community make him a deserving candidate for honorary membership in the Bauxite Hall of Fame. George’s involvement in the Booster Club, his commitment to capturing the school’s athletic achievements on film, and his leadership on the School Board all reflect a deep love for Bauxite and its people. Rev. George P. Thompson, Jr. passed on January 29, 2015. He proudly served his country and community with distinction and his contributions to Bauxite will be remembered for generations to come.
