The Panthers got off to a hot start, scoring on their first with a 42-yard touchdown pass to Elias Payne. After a series of punts, Harding Academy struck back with a 94-yard touchdown drive headed by Harding QB Owen Miller. Benton recovered the Wildcat onside kick and scored on the next drive with a 13-yard touchdown pass to Maddox Davis.
Later, in the second quarter, Elias Payne reeled in a 27-yard touchdown pass once again. Harding quickly answered when Miller and Eli Baker connected for a 47-yard touchdown, cutting into Benton’s lead and altering the score to 21-14. Following another failed Harding onside kick attempt, Drew Davis threw his 4th touchdown pass of the game to sophomore running back T.J. Williams. The Panther’s defense prevented the Wildcats from scoring and Benton found themselves with the ball with 00:57 left in the first half. In the final seconds of the second quarter, junior Will Carter made a great play to haul in Drew’s 5th touchdown pass of the game.
Harding Academy got off to an electric start in the second half with an opening 92-yard touchdown drive capped off with a 6-yard Owen Miller touchdown pass. But the Panthers bounced back with a 9-yard touchdown run by senior Luther Tucker III. A few minutes later, the Panthers scored again on a 32-yard pass to Will Carter. This increased the Benton lead 56-21. To seal off the win, senior running back Quenton Godley led a 41-yard touchdown drive.
Benton blew out the Wildcats 63-21 and will look forward to next Friday, where the Panthers will face 0-3 Jonesboro in the homecoming game.
