Senator Kim Hammer and Representative Lanny Fite, both of Benton, were awarded the 2019 Statesman Award by Family Council Action Committee. Senator Hammer and Representative Fite received the award for making an “A” on the 2019 Family Council Action Committee legislative report card. Recipients of this award are recognized for their votes during the 92nd General Assembly on the 25 bills in the report card. Senator Hammer and Representative Fite received their awards on Thursday, November 7, 2019.
Senator Kim Hammer is serving in his first term as a State Senator and is a chaplain and pastor at Saline Memorial Hospice. He previously served eight years in the state House of Representatives. During the 92nd General Assembly, Senator Hammer serves on the Senate Committee on Public Health, Welfare, and Labor and the Senate Committee on Transportation, Technology and Legislative Affairs. During the 2019 legislative session, Senator Hammer was the lead senate sponsor of HB1453, now Act 953, the Perinatal Palliative Care Information Act, a new law that requires abortionists to inform women about palliative care services and offer them as an alternative to abortion if the unborn child is unlikely to survive. Senator Hammer and his wife Karen have two sons and a daughter and reside in Benton, Arkansas.
Representative Lanny Fite is serving in his third term as a State Representative and is a retired County Judge of Saline County. For the 92nd General Assembly, Representative Fite serves as the Chairman of the House City, County, and Local Affairs Committee. He also serves on the Arkansas Legislative Council, the House Revenue and Taxation Committee, and the House Rules Committee. He is a graduate of Benton High School and a member of the Lions Club. Representative Fite scored a 100% on the Family Council Action Committee report card. Representative Fite is a father of two and resides in Benton, Arkansas, with his wife Sherri.
The awards were presented to Senator Hammer and Representative Fite by Ken Yang, Political Director of Family Council Action Committee based in Little Rock.
“Legislators regularly face tough votes at the State Capitol and their hard work, good votes, and dedication to Christian family values are often unknown to the public” said Yang. “We chose votes on bills based on our core belief in promoting, protecting, and strengthening traditional family values. We are thankful that Senator Hammer’s and Representative Fite’s votes on those bills reflect our mission,” stated Yang, “we are pleased to present them with the 2019 Statesman Award.”
